Our home is a four-story Arts and Crafts style house built in 1916 and located in Chevy Chase DC, a very lovely and leafy neighborhood of Washington DC.

The house sleeps seven, although we are only two. We like to have friends stay. It has high ceilings, oak floors and period details. There's a log fire (plenty of firewood), piano, and lots of books. The bathrooms and kitchen were all remodeled in 2010.

We have front and rear porches. The rear is screened and is a delightful place to eat in summer. The garden is pretty, south facing with a barbecue for grilling.

Many of the homes on our street have front porches and in summer neighbors often gather on the porches to chat and sip wine.

Our neighborhood is wonderful. Our block is friendly, often organizing parties together. It is leafy and green and people are very polite.

We are a ten minute walk to the metro "Friendship Heights", which takes you downtown to museums and monuments in about 20 minutes. You can also drive downtown in about 15-20 minutes. Our car is available for exchange.

Near the metro there is extensive shopping: Bloomingdales, JCrew, Gap, Jimmy Choo, Max Mara etc.

In the other direction, we are a three minute walk from the village atmosphere of Chevy Chase, where you find a traditional American diner, a library, great bagels, Starbucks, a restored art deco movie theatre, restaurants and grocery stores.

At the end of our block is our neighborhood park with tennis and basketball courts and a baseball field. There is an enclosed playground for little children with a water feature in summer.

Our larger local park is Rock Creek Park which offers acres of trails and hiking, horse riding and picnicking by the river.

DC offers wonderful cultural attractions, often for free, including the Smithsonian Museums, the national zoo (15 minute drive from our house) and events on the National Mall.

A drive of one or two hours takes you to the Shenondoah valley, Gettysburg and other civil war sites.

Our home is a great base to explore DC. It is very comfortable and well equipped. We entertain a lot. Our neighbors are welcoming. There are lots of children around and it is a very safe area for them to play outside and go to the park at the end of the block.

We are transplants but love our adopted city and warmly recommend DC as a great place to visit.

My name is Corrie. I am Irish, working for an international organization in Washington. I have lived and worked in a number of countries before ending up in DC. My son, Sam, is 12 years old and torn between being a professional soccer player or a librarian when he grows up. We've traveled extensively but are somewhat limited to school vacations now like spring break, Christmas, and summer.

We are outdoorsy and bookish at the same time. We love to go camping or on ski trips but also enjoy lounging with our books when we get there.

We are very social and easy going. I speak five languages. Sam is working on his Spanish.....

We have a dog called Patsy Cline, a very mellow five-year-old beagle mix. She can stay at our local kennel while you visit, unless you would like to have her around.

We have a tenant, Suzy, who rents our basement unit. It has its own independent access, not through the house. Suzy is very quiet and kind and is a model tenant.
