This gorgeous 3,000 sq. ft. Donner Summit cabin has all the amenities of home with all the enjoyment opportunities that nature provides. The large deck overlooks the lovely mountain lake with views of Castle Peak. The master bedroom suite is on the main floor with a spacious Jacuzzi soaking tub. Downstairs has a billiard room and two additional bedrooms (one with bunks enough to sleep six). Summer activities include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, hiking, and biking. In the winter, partake in skiing (cross-country and downhill), sledding, snowshoeing, and ice-skating. Lake Tahoe and the quaint town of Truckee are a short drive away. We get lots of snow at our 7,000+ ft. elevation, but don't be intimidated as our friendly neighborhood snow plow will ensure easy access. Royal Gorge, Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs and Donner Ski Ranch ski resorts are in the neighborhood. Ice Lakes Lodge is practically across the street.

Serene Lakes

The largest subdivision in the unincorporated community of Soda Springs, Serene Lakes is located about 1 mile south of Soda Springs, 1.5 miles from Interstate 80. Originally the Serene Lakes were called Ice Lakes which originated in the 1860s when the lakes was an ice harvesting station for the San Francisco area. The 2 lakes –Lake Serena (the upper lake) and Lake Dulzura (the lower lake) — were supposedly named by Mark Twain in honor of his daughters. Approximately 2400 acres, the Serene Lakes subdivision is comprised of 1000 lots with an average size of 1/5 acre. Approximately 800 of the lots are private homes, a majority of which are vacation homes; however there are full time residents. The community is surrounded by land owned and managed by the US Forest Service and world class Royal Gorge cross country ski resort. There is a boat launch (no power boats allowed) and a large beach for swimmers maintained by the HOA at the lower lake, with areas for horseshoes, volleyball, barbecues, picnics and swimming. We have a couple of cruiser bikes, kayaks, canoe, lake float toys and such available for your use.

As this cabin is not our primary home, simultaneous exchanges are not necessary.

We are looking to stay in Paris end of Sept./early Oct. for a few days

We have family in So. Cal., Michigan, Florida and Chicago that we would like to visit.

We are open to short visits anywhere within reasonable driving distance from the Bay Area.

We are active early retirees embarking on new part time career endeavors. Kitty is a teacher turned nonprofit professional and Jon is an engineer turned EMT. Our children are on their own for the most part. We are ready to be adventurous and explore locales near and far. We are environmentally conscious, enjoy jazz music, art, architecture, gardening, cooking and the company of our friends and family. Jon is a Sugar Bowl National Ski Patroller. Kitty is an avid hiker. We love our seven-year old 30 lb. red labradoodle, named after the reindeer, Donner. Donner is well loved by others, if he needs to stay home while we travel.
