Our property is in a rural area and is set in 5 acres of lovely woods and rocks to climb, we also have two large ponds on the property where we have resident ducks and fish (as long as Mr Heron doesnt get them) , sitting on the deck you can watch the deer go by, also bald eagles overhead, and of course the hummingbirds who visit us from March to August.

Our home is only 35 minutes from Victoria city centre and is a Tudor style house, we bought the land and then built and landscaped ourselves in 1994. As you can see on the picture there is a garage to the right which has a studio apartment above which can be used for non simultaneous visitors, or we rent it out too at a nominal cost.

Just a few minutes down the road is Pedder Bay where you can go Salmon Fishing. Lovely Matheson Lake can be reached by a walk through the woods if you are energetic or a few minutes drive, in summer its lovely to swim here, and also we have the famous Pacific Rim National Park not far from us. There are lots of Whale trips in the Juan de Fuca straights. The famous Buchart Gardens, Museums, Ice Skating etc. are all within easy reach.

Also up Island is a lovely ski resort, Mount Washington, you can have a day trip (which they do from Victoria) or stay in accommodation for a few days, not quite so commercialised as Whistler, but excellent skiing and more like a family run business. You can find it on the Web site. www. mountwashington. ca We also have wireless internet facility.

We live just 35 minutes from town (Victoria) in a rural area called Metchosin, there are places of historic interest in the area, i. e. Metchosin (our local village) has the first school house in B. C in it, also has one store (no pub) but a wonderful licenced retaurant called Mychosin Cafe, where people come from miles around.

Many local artists in the area, sculptors, lots of indian culture, woodcarving, painting, etc. Sunday mornings in the summer they have the local market in the village, which is very interesting, with fruit and vegetables (organic) as well as the local artisans work. The name Metchosin, is an Indian Name meaning 'stinky fish', this came about because a whale was washed up on the shore years ago, and the Indians named the village after it. There are many lovely walks, horseriding in the area is available, of course swimming in Matheson lake (which is within walking distance) in the summer is beautiful, clean and fresh and so peaceful.

There are lots of beaches, National Parks to walk in, golf courses, at least 4 in the neigbourhood, not counting our own 4 hole course around the front garden! ! ! ! We have golf clubs for your use in the garden shed.We also have ping pong in the garage, a trampolene (with safetynet) for the kiddies a couple of smallish bikes amongst other things like a sand pit, basketball hoop, lots of toys for the grandchildren to play on. you are welcome to use if you have children.Also a darts board in the garage for a game or two. It is a lovely peaceful area, but you are not far from lots of activities for young and old. Canoeing is very popular too, around our area, lots of people hire them.

We have good neighbours who would welcome you and show you around etc. ,if we are not here they would be on hand should any problems arise. Just call them.

I am sure for a nominal cost they would arrange for someone to meet you from the ferry or Victoria Airport, as a taxi is very costly. Also take you back.

We have a 4 x 4 Chevy Truck automatic, which seats five if we dont go away in our 5th wheel, because obviously we have to use the truck to tow it! we also have a 4 wheel drive Suburu, which is a standard shift geers, for exchange.

We like to go to these destinations because our 4 children and their families live in the area, but it doesnt have to be on their doorstep, just so as we are in striking distance of them

We are a retired couple,been married over 50 years now! our names are John and Barbara (Barb) and we emigrated to Canada from England in March 1991, we bought the land and landscaped it for two years before we actually built the house in 1994 and the garage the next year. We can send photos and phamphlets if requested of the area, we have successfully already done over 25 houseswaps, in Brisbane (one of our sons live there with his family) and in England (where our eldest daughter lives with her family), and 1 in Singapore, I am sure if required references could be arranged from some of our wonderful friends who we have exchanged with. John is an ex Royal Navy Engineer, and I worked in an Office in London.

We have no pets, but would be grateful if you could water a few plants! ! ! This is a lovely way for us to travel and see our children and grandchildren all around the world, they live in Hampshire,England, Brisbane Australia, Hollister, California, and our youngest daughter and family have now moved up to Seattle which is only across the water from us now with her lovely family h so this is much nearer for us to visit them. We do try to stretch ourselves all over the world, and try not to be too long before we see them all, and this is a marvellous way for us to be able to do it.
