Sweet little one-bedroom apartment on the edge of Waikiki, perfect for enjoying all that Honolulu and Oahu have to offer. We're on the 4th floor of a 5-story secure building with an elevator and have a 180-degree view of the Ala Wai golf course and the Waikiki skyline. The street floor houses small businesses including a convenience store and several hair salons.

The coin-op laundry is on the same floor, just next door, actually. Our apartment has high speed internet and wifi, a flatscreen TV, hardwood floors, a comfortable queen bed, luxurious bedding and towels, a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with a shower (no tub), and room air conditioners for those days when the trade winds don't blow.

The apartment is perfect for a single person or a couple, although it does have a single futon couch in the living room which folds down and can serve as a bed for a third smallish person.

Our Kapahulu Avenue neighborhood is close to Waikiki yet slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of this premier vacation destination. We're two blocks away from the Pacific Ocean at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki, close to Kapiolani Park and the Honolulu Zoo. We're in a very safe, walkable neighborhood. Most mornings I start the day with a 45-minute walk around Kapiolani Park. Some days I walk all the way around Diamond Head which takes about an hour and a half, or maybe even up to the top of Diamond Head and back if I'm feeling especially energetic.

There are many small, mostly ethnic restaurants within walking distance of the apartment, which is great if you don't feel like cooking. There's a Safeway up the street and a Whole Foods a little further away. The Waikiki Branch of the Public Library is just half a block away.

Another plus for me is the proximity of the Waikiki Senior Center. I take advantage of their low or no-cost classes in such things as yoga, hula, tap dance, aerobics and French for people of all ages. There's also a senior writers program, salsa lessons and a bunch of other fun-sounding activities I haven't had time to investigate yet.

I could go on about the places of interest on Oahu, but the main attraction, for me anyway, is the ocean, the warm breezes, and the feeling of Aloha you can sense as soon as you step off the plane. No matter where I go in the world, I'm always glad to come home to that special energy.

Although I love all things furry, I'm allergic to most dogs and cats, so wouldn't be able to host pets or go to homes that include pet care as a responsibility.

We are Francis and Joy. Joy is recently retired, having done her time as a medical librarian in the San FranciscoBay Area. Francis is a local boy. He was born and raised on Oahu but has spent time as an adult in New York City and San Francisco working and traveling for his federal government job.

We love all kinds of music and musical and theatrical performances. Fran plays guitar and Joy plays violin in the Oahu Civic Orchestra. We also enjoy hiking, dancing, going to museums, and eating in wonderful restaurants.

We are most interested in longer stays, a month or two would be ideal. Joy has a special interest in the French language and all things French, and would love to take an extended vacation in Paris so she can get up to speed with the language. We are also Argentine tango dancers and would be very interested in an exchange in Buenos Aires. We have a second home on Oahu, so simultaneous exchanges are not necessary.
