Nuestra casa
Swim all year round in our very private 16m pool (not suitable for young children). We have three very comfortable double bedrooms (air conditioned & overhead fans) but one of these bedrooms is used as a TV/lounge room for guests. The King size master bedroom is 6 x 6m with ensuite and overlooks the pool. We have a huge lounge/dining area 18m x 9m, decorated with original art works and a variety of antiques.
Given the climate, we spend much of our time on the large patio/deck overlooking garden or lazing around the pool. This is truly paradise!

Nuestro barrio
Our house is located amongst small acreage properties, 2 kms from the main road - a 25 km easy drive from Cairns. Its 5 mins drive from the beach and 10 mins to the popular resort area of Palm Cove. We have many excellent restaurants, nearby shopping centres and the world class 'Paradise Palms' golf course just down the road. Paradise Palms is worth a visit even if you dont play golf - the views from the club house restaurant are unforgetable!
Our place is an excellent base to explore Far North Queensland. Its a 35min drive north to the holiday mecca of Port Douglas, 25 mins south to Cairns – the Gateway Great Barrier Reef. You can sail, dive, snorkel, explore tropical islands or just laze around on the beach. http://www.tropicalaustralia.com.au.
Within 100kms radius of our place you can experience a wide variety of landscapes and climatic conditions. The ancient, World Heritage Daintree Rainforest - the oldest rainforest in the world is not to be missed and if you are lucky you might just see a giant cassowary. You can take a cruise on the Daintree River and look for salt water crocodiles. On the Atherton Tablelands you can take a drive around the waterfall circuit, visit the Australian outback at Undarra, check out the Aboriginal Centre at Kuranda, fish Lake Tinaroo for giant Barramundi or see Gourdian Finches breeding at the Mareeba Wetlands. And further south you have the spectacular Whitsunday Islands - well worth a visit if you have time. www.greattropicaldrive.com.au
If you plan to travel extensively in the Australian 'outback', or north to the wilderness areas of Cape Yorke Peninsula you will need to hire a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle. All other places can be reached with a conventional car or campervan.

Our home is very spacious and we tend to use one end of the house which leaves plenty of room (and privacy) for guests. If arranging a direct exchange please keep in mind that our three bedrooms have king/queen/double beds but one of those rooms is set up as a TV/lounge room - it has a double sofa bed. While the house can sleep 6 it works best for couples or families with one or two mature children.
There is also plenty of room for smoking outdoors (but no smoking in the house).
Cairns is a great starting point for exploring Tropical North Queensland and we have lots of suggestions about things to do and great places to visit. You might like to check out the following websites: www.dctta.com.au www.ttnq.com.au www.tropicalaustralia.com.au www.cairnsvisitorcentre.com www.greattropicaldrive.com.au www.greattropicaldrive.com.au
Alternatively you can just lay around our pool/garden and relax.
We are open to a direct exchange, non simultaneous exchange and/or a hospitality exchange. We have travelled extensively and are always open to offers.

Nuestras fechas
While we are reasonably flexible, we prefer to travel in the off/quiet season in the Tropical North Queensland tourism industry; from April - June. Or later in the year late Sept - Nov. However, for people wanting to come to Cairns, hospitality and/or non simultaneous exchanges at other times are also a possibility.

We are currently planning to spend 2 weeks in the UK touring the countryside late May 2013. And possibly rural France and Nth Italy in June 2013. Home Exchange works well for us and we usually look for 2 or 3 different consecutive locations of 5 - 10 days in length. Holiday homes, second homes, hospitality or non-simultaneous exchanges are definite possibilities.
We also doing a 5 day cruise ex New York late Sept 2013 and would be interested in visiting scenic areas on the East Coast around that time.
British Columbia is always a favourite destination and New Zealand is a possibility all year round - we would particularly like to revisit the Marlborough Sound area, especially in autumn.
We have just spent an enjoyable week on the West Coast of Tasmania and would like to return to explore the NE and East Coast sometime. Scenic settings in Bali, Thailand, Fiji, Norfolk Island are also possibilities.

Nosotros
Ron (64) and Pam (70) - we are supposed to be semi-retired but as owners of the award winning Daintree Discovery Centre www.daintree-rec.com.au we seem to have very little spare time. However, we have excellent staff who run the Centre for us and are reasonably free to travel (excluding the height of the tourist season from June - Sept). Hospitality exchanges are possible during these months - and may suit a single person, a couple or a small group.
Pam is an ex teacher who likes to walk early in the morning and exercise at the local gym each day. Her latest passions are Tai Chi and Bridge. She is also the gardener in the family! Ron is more interested in anything to do with business and in particular communication technologies. Both enjoy a round of golf.
Originally from South Australia we moved to Cairns in 2000 and love living in this tropical paradise - snorkling/fishing/boating on the Barrier Reef and playing golf. However, much of our spare time is spent in the garden, on the back deck or laying around the pool.
Tropical North Queensland has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest is a 'must see'. There is horse riding near by, plenty of tennis courts available for hire and for the more adventurous we have bungy jumping, ballooning and white water rafting. It truly has something for everyone.
Our children are grown up and there are just the two of us at home. We love good food, good wine and great holidays and look forward to meeting people who like the same.
