The area is called Vasastan and is famous for its many small restaurants, shops and galleries. There are 10 different tram and buss lines, all are leaving approx. every 5 min.
We have a big supermarket and plenty of restaurants. There is also a state monopoly liquer store, which is very convenient since you cannot buy beer, wine or alcohol at the supermarkets in Sweden.
Within 5 min. walk you will find Avenyn. Formally called Kungsportsavenyn, it is the main street running through Göteborg, and is a very popular place. It was created in the late 19th century as the result of a planning competition. At almost 1 km long, the Avenyn is lined with restaurants, bars, shops, museums, trees, parks and people. It ends at the pretty Götaplatsen square, which is home to the Concert Hall, Museum of Art, the City Theatre and the famous Poseidon statue. The Avenyn is a lively place any time of day or night, especially in the summer. If you ever need something to do, take a nice walk down there and you’ll have plenty of choices, or just enjoy the stroll itself.
Göteborg (Gothenburg) on the Swedish west coast is the second largest city in Sweden with a population of 600 000. It is known for its compact city centre where all the 35 main attractions are within walking distance. This includes the classic Liseberg amusement park, the Ullevi football stadium and the Nordstan shopping centre, who all are the biggest ones of their kind in Scandinavia. There is a big cultural scene with the very modern Opera house in the harbour and the Concert house with the future conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel. The beautiful archipelago is only a short ferry ride away and it´s also a very green city with 175m² of green areas per inhabitant. The people of Gothenburg are relaxed and friendly, they speak very good English and their biggest passion is to sit at one of the many outdoor cafés and restaurants from April-September. If you want to see a bit more of Scandinavia, then cities like Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen are only a 3-hour train ride away.
Gothenburg is also a good base for visiting the rest of Europe, since a number of low fair airlines fly to cities like London, Dublin, Berlin, Budapest and Barcelona for just around 500 kronor (100 AUS$) return.
