Our cottage is located in the pristine development of Bear Lake Reserve, in Tuckasegee, NC located close to Highlands, Cashiers and Western Carolina University in the mountains of Western North Carolina. (www.bearlakereserve.com; www.terramesahospitality.com)

We have 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths with streams and a mountain view. Comfortably set up for vacationing with access to the private country club amenities (golf, pool, tennis, marina, and lake clubhouse with restaurant/bar). In the summer there are lots of activities for families - planned and spontaneous. Hiking, camping platforms in Bear Creek Park, boat rentals, waterfalls and quaint small, upscale resort towns just minutes away. (Highlands - 45 minutes and Cashiers - 30 minutes and Western Carolina University - 15 minutes)

The cottage has a split bedroom plan, fully equipped with rock fireplace in the living room and a rock fireplace on the screened porch.


Perfect for any season of the year. Summers are mild and winters can bring some snowfall!



Bed sizes are: master - king, guest - king, guest - 2 sets of bunk beds. Televisions are in the living room and 2 of the bedrooms. Everything has been thought of for a very enjoyable vacation. This is a second home, therefore exchanges do not have to be simultaneous.

(For use of the private club and all its facilities and amenities, Bear Lake Reserve requires a temporary membership card filled out before arrival. The amenity fee has been waived, but by law, the resort still has to charge guests $1.00!!)

This area of North Carolina has always been a destination for the Southeast (and now beyond) because of the scenery, outdoor activities, incredible restaurants, shopping and mild summers.

15 minutes away are all the amenities of a fine university - Western Carolina University. Many cultural and sporting events at the university are available to the public. A few miles from the university is Sylva, NC which has become a destination vacation spot with an eclectic college town and Main Street.

In the other direction, take advantage of the upscale but laid back resort towns of Cashiers and Highlands.

This area is very scenic and safe.

Bear Lake Reserve is a great home base for exploring Asheville (the Biltmore House), Harrah's Cherokee Casino with the new Paula Deen restaurant, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the great Smoky Mountains.

We would love to find an exchange family from the South Carolina or Georgia beach area that has always wanted a mountain home, (but just doesn't need or want the headache and expense of a third home) that might want to make a yearly exchange or several weekend exchanges.

We love Mexico! We have been visiting there since 1984. San Miguel de Allende is one of our favorites, but we love the beaches too.

One daughter and husband have moved to Covina, CA and we would love to visit any towns near there or in the Palm Springs/Desert area.

Southeastern beaches are of interest to us too.

We can travel anytime and would love to explore new places!

Long weekend exchanges are fine.

Wick and I (Margie) have raised 5 daughters and are now ready to travel! We are both from Savannah, GA where Wick practiced law. We now have the privilege of living full time in Highlands, NC and love visiting Bear Lake for weekend getaways.

We would be traveling with either other couples or some of our adult children. Two of our daughters are married, and love to travel as their schedules allow. We will consider pets in our home depending on age and number!
